About Sasha

Sasha Strauss speaks from 25 years in brand strategy, having defined brands for leading corporations, philanthropies, faiths, and academic institutions. Sasha’s distinct and direct approach to how brands and leadership must communicate is the foundation for his brand strategy consultancy, Innovation Protocol (IP). Their ability to inspire while they inform is why brands like Nestlé, PayPal, LEGO, Google, Disney, and Korn Ferry have called on their consulting and thought leadership since 2006.

While running IP as CEO, Sasha has been a professor for 18 years, concurrently teaching brand strategy at UCLA, USC, and UCI business schools. That coursework, coupled with IP’s client work for innovators, directly impacts Sasha’s impassioned keynote speeches at the world’s largest conferences.

On a Plane Again

Three Musts From a 20-Year Travel Veteran

Nab a window seat at all costs—access to your personal sky portal is high on the list of things to fight for. What’s key is that half of the population loves the aisle, so chances are high you’ll be serving up a big gift to someone eager to frequent the bathrooms. This is a good reason to let the flight attendants know you’ll trade if anyone wants to swap (if you didn’t lock one in prior to departure).

  • Your personal view of this wonderous world, worth watching day and night.
  • Your own private leaning spot for optimal meditation and napping.
  • 50% lower chances of spilling on your neighbor.

Micro-hydration Gamification

Drink water (with gas if you’re Sasha) in small consistent amounts, using the water-to-ice ratio as a little bonsai tree to nurture. There’s no perfect amount—that’s the game/problem. You’re tapping the beverage as a little treat, but also using it to balance your inner molecules. You’re dependent on your supplier to keep you resourced accordingly, but you can’t over inventory or you risk tossing your load in turbulence.

  • Stick to sipping. It helps manage bathroom trips to zero if you can unlock pro traveler status.
  • Ice serves as a tactile treat and a dam to slow your intake.
  • Save coffee for a special treat upon landing.

Create a Reflection Chamber

When you’ve got 4/6/12 hours to yourself, take the opportunity to meditate.

  • Listen to instrumental artists like “Explosions in the Sky” for a fluid traveling soundtrack, while spoken word remixes like Akir the Don’s “Meaningwaves” make for endless conscious exploration. Long-form orations by wisdom tradition masters such as Joseph Campbell and Manly P. Hall help your mind wander freely.
  • Relish in the engineering mastery that you’re experiencing—every part working together, built by a person whose career was likely planes, just so people can meet face-to-face. There are so few superproducts that touch millions of people every single day while remaining people’s lifetime careers around the world.
  • Whether it’s REM sleep, dozing off repeatedly, or just closing your eyes and calming the body, getting a day of full physical rest is a rare gift to our bodies. Flex your joints every couple of hours, keep that head supported, wear compression socks, and you’ll land feeling grateful.
